The “Phages for the Fight: Hands-on Workshop on Isolation and Characterization of Bacteriophages” was a two-day training programme organized at the School of Applied Sciences and Technology (SAST), Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad, on 7–8 March 2026. The workshop aimed to provide practical and theoretical knowledge on bacteriophages and their emerging role in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Through expert lectures, laboratory demonstrations, and hands-on training, participants gained experience in sample collection, phage isolation, enrichment techniques, spot testing, and plaque assays. With the participation of 56 students and researchers, the programme successfully fostered scientific learning, research skills, and awareness of bacteriophage applications in biotechnology and healthcare.

The “Phages for the Fight” workshop, organized at Saurashtra University, Rajkot, provided hands-on training in bacteriophage isolation and confirmation techniques for 40 participating students. Coordinated by Dr. Dolatsinh Zala and Dr. Rajesh Kothari, the program focused on sample selection, primary isolation, and bacteriophage confirmation through practical demonstrations and interactive learning sessions. The workshop successfully enhanced students’ understanding of phage biology, laboratory methodologies, and the growing significance of bacteriophages in antimicrobial resistance research.
